INSTRUCTOR
Brent Dunn 1st Dan
Martial Arts Background
Brent’s love of Martial Arts began at the Queensland University Sang Dan Tae Kwon Do club, where he trained under the late Shihan Grant Dobinson.
Since then he has trained in a variety of styles including a period in Indonesia where he trained PGB White Crane Silat, in Ubud Bali with Pak Ei Ei. In Sydney he trained with Wahn Shuliapon in Shaolin Kungfu, and briefly in Wing Chun, before discovering Kyokushin Karate while landscaping in Liverpool, Western Sydney.
This has given him a broad understanding of what the different arts have to offer.
After a few years focussed on establishing his architecture practice, he resumed training in 2010 in Kyokushin Karate.
He completed his first degree black belt under Sensei Jason Baltov, Sensei Shane Cunliffe and Sensei Viktor Timev at the Illawarra Kyokushin Dojo in 2022.
Since then he has been training at Shugyo BJJ in Moruya to add ground skills.
Brent established the Shiomizu dojo in Moruya, on the south coast of NSW in 2025. The dojo is part of the Australian So-Kyokushin International group led by Shihan Cameron Quinn, providing direct connection to Kyokushin’s origins in Japan via Hanshi Diego Oishi.
In his spare time Brent enjoys music, architecture and being immersed outdoors - from ocean to bush to mountains.
